Interning Internationally

It was 25th May when I got an email from Ambika, my manager that I was selected for the internship in Thailand.

Now I was still sceptical, because, let’s be honest, who in their right mind gives an all-inclusive opportunity to a management undergraduate? Until I met one of their associations here, Adfactors PR. Now, if you are into marketing or PR you will get a sense of how big of a deal that is.

The company that I interned with was Magnolia Quality Development Corporation which is a real estate development arm of DTGO, which in turn is a sister company of the CP group.

Let me give you a brief background of them. CP had revenue of over $60 Bn in 2018. Their subsidiaries include 7-eleven stores and True communications to name a few. Interestingly, they also own the LOTS wholesale store and Arabitia cafe that you see at NSP station.

DTGO, on the other hand, might have been the most unique company I have ever come across. Their focus on sustainability is second to none. For example, at MQDC’s Forestias project the company aimed to replant the trees that were removed to a safer environment with help from RISC (Research and Innovation Sustainability Centre).

Apart from all of this, my work at the internship was superb and was something like a fast-track management trainee programme. I went from hosting the Indian pavilion at Techsauce Global Summit to learning about the supply chain of CP foods.

The best part of the internship might have been the networking I did. At the Techsauce Summit, which actually had a footfall of over 20,000 over 2 days according to the organisers, I met Vaibhav Agarwal, the founder and CEO of Inc42, a company that covers stories and offers perspectives on Indian startups. We had an illuminating chat around half an hour about topics like a career to his vision for the company which was the most

This is a small hint of what interning overseas with the right company can do for you. It expands your perspective on how cultures interact with one another, how they integrate into the company culture, how vast the world is outside your well and the immense opportunities that await you.

I am still associated with MQDC as a brand ambassador, where during the past 6 months they have entered the Indian market with their Whizdom brand. We have our first co-working space in GK2 at Savitri Complex, Delhi. They also launched WhizCafe on the 22nd of February, 2020 with an intention to revolutionise the cafe industry with their menu curated by celeb chefs Neha Lakhani and Akshay Dhopatkar.
